Recently, I have had a lot of foreign visitors (obvious from the question) questioning the description of my blog "Mat Salleh in Malaysia seeking the truth in today's world"
First let me say that Mat Salleh is a famous individual from Sabah. For context see here. No, I am not related to him. Although that would be a good story. Mat Salleh had lots of heirs and as they moved out of Sabah and to the Peninsular, some went to America to be educated. One fell in love with a Caucasian and had a child. This child went on to have another child (who by the watering down of genes) was totally white. That's me.
Ok back to reality. Anyway, Mat Salleh is also a term for Caucasians. For more context on white people in the Peninsular and their trials and tribulations see here. Some people say that it is slightly perjorative. I don't take it as such. I enjoy it. I'm glad to be white and I'm glad to be living in Malaysia.
Now who is this Mat Salleh on the blog? I'm an American. I met my wife, who is Malaysian, in America while we were both working in a metropolitan city on the west coast. Unfortunately, her father passed away 3 years ago. Being Asian and an only child, she felt it was her duty to move back and take care of her mother. Having visited Malaysia several times and always putting on about 5 lbs while I was here, I didn't even flinch at the chance to move back. You see, if you don't like food, don't visit Malaysia.
One and a half years ago, we had our first daughter. Aliya. She looks just like her mother. Not many "Mat Salleh" features (our genes are weak) thank goodness. I will enjoy letting her mak and nenek teach her about her Malaysian heritage. It is one filled with lots of history. Anyway, I'm sure you came to read about what's happening in Malaysia and not my boring life so we'll get back to it. I hope you enjoy the blog. If there's anything you are interested in from a "Mat Salleh" perspective. Let me know.
