I can vividly remember sitting in my living room watching one of the numerous "Town Hall Meetings" during the run up to the 2000 election. I clearly remember Bush saying that our troops should not be used for Nation Building. Here's proof.
I wondered what happened? 9/11? That's the most likely excuse but someone please enlighten me to how 9/11 has shown us that we should be in the business of Nation Building. For me, 9/11 shows the need for increased homeland security against the threats of terrorism. Full Stop.
Once you get into the business of Nation Building, where does it stop? Who's next? Iran? Syria? What about Indonesia? Malaysia? Myanmar?. Perhaps the Government would do well to re-explain to us simpletons why we need to Nation Build Iraq. Also, what is the future pre-requisite for going on a Nation Building exercise?
Do we Nation Build in every country that does not like us? Canada? France? As much as some of the typical internet loonies would like this, we know it's not practical.
Actually, if the Nation Building business was that profitable, Great Britain would still be doing it. They were the experts of their time.
